Facing Anxiety With Scripture pt 6

Are you faced with worries? I have put together a few tips to help with worry.

Yes, I know, I have told you before that my middle name should be worry. I believe if there was an Olympic event in worrying, I would win it. Hands down.

I recently had a rheumatologist appointment. Oh how I worry over doctor appointments before they ever arrive.

Arrive Early

Okay, here's the thing. We were told to arrive 20 minutes before my scheduled appointment. I don't know why. It took all of two minutes to get checked in. Then, are you ready for this? I was called back. I was weighed, had my blood pressure checked, answered several questions and, here is the biggie..... I was placed into a room 10 minutes before my scheduled appointment time.

We waited.

And waited.

I answered my phone.

I got up to move around.

We waited 45 minutes in that room. So my question has to be, why do we need to show up early?

By the time the doctor showed up, I had a major headache on top of all of the pains I had from sitting there for so long.

Worry Longer

I was worried about how this appointment would go. The last time I saw this doctor,  she told me that I had, "soft tissue pain" and escorted me out. There were no follow up appointments scheduled. I did not even know what soft tissue pain meant.

However, this appointment went really well. She listened to what I had to say. And prescribed a new med for me to take.

I feel so much better because she actually listened to me. She seemed to care. She took the time to explain this medication to me. And there is a follow up appointment.

Now, I  will be in hypervigilant mode until I know for certain that I can handle this new medication.

I have anxiety and depression. They are just a part of who I am. There are days that I have a peace about it, but right here, right now, I am really struggling.

Tips For Worry

1. Recite a favorite verse.

Gather some verses on worry, pick your favorite and keep it close. Memorize it. Turn it into a prayer and pray it to the Lord when you feel anxious.

2. Tell someone close about your worry .

Find someone that you trust, ie. husband, sibling, mother, friend, and talk to them about what is worrying you.

3. Read the Bible .

Read the Bible for peace and strength.

4. Pray.

Seek the Lord in prayer. He hears you, He is with you, and He will help you.

Psalm 46:1 bookmark. Free printable.

Let's read over Psalm 46, pray over it and hold it close.

Psalm 46 NIV

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,  though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.  There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.  God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.  Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.  The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.  Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth.  He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.  He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”  The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Let's Pray:

Dear Father,  thank You for always being with me. I know that even though mountains fall, the waters roar, nations are in uproar and kingdoms fail that You are an ever-present help. You are always there so I do not need to fear. Father, You break bows, shatter spears and burn shields with fire. All I am required to do is be still and know that You are God. You are my fortress in times of trouble. Thank You so much. In Jesus' name, Amen.
