Panic Attacks, What Does the Bible Say?

I woke up in a panic. For the life of me, I could not remember what I had just been dreaming about. However, from the sheer dread that I felt, I know that it was not a good dream.

As soon as I got up to go into the bathroom, I started worrying, no more like panicking over my blog. I know that my attempts to share the Lord's love with you are starting to get the attention of someone that I would rather not have to deal with. I know that he would rather that I would give in to my fear and bury myself under my covers and stop posting. However, that is not going to happen.

I did have to soothe myself this morning before a full blown panic attack hit me, but I am pressing through.

So what about dreams? I know that God uses them to speak to us. Yes, He does. I can feel your eyes rolling from here (haha). He has used dreams to speak to me before. It was through a dream in 2005 that I felt lead to go back to work. I had not worked since my oldest was in kindergarten. The thought of working again caused me quite a bit of uncomfort, but I did it. And, you know what? We were able to get a lot of our bills caught up, redecorate our condo and Tim got a promotion at work. Once all of that fell into place, we sold our condo and I was able to stay at home again.

So I am thinking that my panic stricken dream from earlier this morning was from the evil one. He is trying to stir up trouble for me. I am so thankful that the Lord blocked the memory of what I was actually dreaming.

Here is a passage from Psalms where David expresses feelings similar to that of a panic attack:

Psalm 55:4-8 NIRV

4 I feel great pain down inside me. The terrors of death have fallen on me. 5 Fear and trembling have taken hold of me. Panic has overpowered me. 6 I said, "I wish I had wings like a dove! Then I would fly away and be at rest. 7 I would escape to a place far away. I would stay out in the desert. 8 I would hurry to my place of safety. It would be far away from the winds and storms I'm facing."

I don't know about you, but reading that makes me feel so much better. At the very least, I do not feel so alone.

Here are a couple of verses about God using dreams to reveal Himself:

Amos 3:7 ESV  For the Lord God does nothing without revealing His secret to His servants the prophets.

Numbers 12:6 ESV And He said, "Hear my words: if there is a prophet among you, I the Lord make myself known to him in a vision; I speak to him in a dream."

Do you deal with panic attacks? I hope that you find some comfort in what you have read here today.

Are you someone that gets dreams from the Lord? Please respond below, I would love to read about your dreams.

Please let me know how I can pray for you today. If you will allow it, I will be happy to help carry your load.

Your Sister,
