Keep Your Marriage On The Rock

Are you facing storms in your marriage? Is your marriage built on the Rock or on sand?

In every relationship there will be storms. You will have good times along with the bad times. What is important during these storms is to remember where your foundation is; is your marriage built on the Rock or on sand?

I have mentioned in another post that T and I almost separated at one point. That was a very bad storm in my life.

Cling To  The Lord

It was the evening of our 12th anniversary and he decided to announce to me that he wanted to move out. He also let me know that he did not love me any more. I spent a lot of time crying and praying during that time. Cried myself to sleep most nights, too, well, that is if I slept at all.

I remember one night, after T had fallen asleep, I got up and went out into the living room. The boys were all asleep and I knew that I would have some quiet time with the Lord. I spent time crying and praying. I asked if He wanted me to fight for my marriage or if He wanted me to seek out a lawyer. I heard an audible reply telling me to "fight" and that is what I did.

I clung to the Lord as He lifted me out of my pit. I clung to Him as He guided our marriage through that nasty storm. It was not easy. Even though, my friends at the time, accused me of taking the easy way out.

Every relationship has ups and downs. Cling to the Lord, seek His guidance. Build that relationship on the Rock.

Build On The Rock

Romans 12:7 ERV

If someone does you wrong, don't try to pay them back by hurting them. Try to do what everyone thinks is right.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for loving me so much that You have blessed me with my husband. Please help me to not be someone that needs to keep score or that holds on to hurts. If he hurts me, I do not want to hurt him back. I want to show him the love that You show me each and every day. Please forgive me for the times that I fail in this area. Thank You for bringing this to my attention. In Jesus' name, Amen

James 1:19 CEV

My dear friends, you should be quick to listen and slow to speak or to get angry.

Prayer

Father, please help me to always be one that is quick to listen. I want him to know that his thoughts and feelings are very important to me because he is very important to me. Thank You for putting him in my life. In Jesus' name, Amen

Proverbs 16:24

Pleasant words are like honey. They are sweet to the spirit and bring healing to the body.

Prayer

Dear Father, please help me to be careful with how I use my words. I want to be kind and encouraging to him. I do not want to be rude or tear him down. Help me to remember that kindness is contagious, but so is rudeness. Thank You. In Jesus' name, Amen

Proverbs 26:11 NIRV

A foolish person who does the same foolish things again is like a dog that returns to where it has thrown up.

Prayer

Father, please give me new eyes to see the things about myself that I may be continually doing that is hurting my marriage. Father, I do not want to be like a dog going back to it's vomit. Help me to see these areas and to make the necessary changes. Thank You for Your help. In Jesus' name, Amen

Proverbs 23:4

Don't wear yourself out to get rich. Be wise enough to say no.

Prayer

Father, please help me to always make You and my marriage a priority. Nothing else comes before them. Help me to be wise enough to know when to say no to other things that would take up too much of my time and keep me away from You and my marriage. Thank You. In Jesus' name, Amen

Proverbs 29:11 NIRV

A foolish person lets his anger run wild. But a wise person keeps himself under control.

Prayer

Dear Father, please forgive me for the times that I respond out of anger. I want to make choices from wisdom, not from anger, Father. Please give me wisdom. Help me to always seek Your guidance when I am angry. Thank You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Matthew 7:24 NIRV

"So then, everyone who hears my words and puts them into practice is like a wise man. He builds his house on the rock."

Prayer

Dear Father, thank You for being in our marriage. Thank You for protecting us when the storms hit. Help us to stay connected to You -- our Rock -- so we know that our marriage has a strong foundation. In Jesus' name, Amen
