Humility Leads To Honor

Are you prideful, haughty in your actions and in the way that you talk? Or are you humble?

Proverbs 18:12 NIV

Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.

According to dictionary.com the word haughty means disdainfully proud; snobbish; scornfully arrogant; supercilious.

Be Respectful

The word humble means not proud or arrogant; modest; courteously respectful.

What I am understanding is that I need to seek ways where I courteously respect others. Even with my words. Or better yet, I should say, especially with my words.

So, what does it look like to be humble and respectful with your words?

The words you speak are for:

1. Worship -  Psalm 143:6, Psalm 95:6

2. Praise -  Psalm 150:6, Psalm 103:1

3. Prayer -  Jeremiah 29:12, 1 Thessalonians 5:17

4. Building others up  - 1 Thessalonians 5:11, Ephesians 4:29

5. Being grateful -  1 Chronicles 16:34, Psalm 9:1

Prayer:

Dear Father,

Thank you for always being with me. Please help me, Father, to remember that a haughty heart comes before a downfall, but humility leads to honor (Proverbs 18:12 NIV). Help me to use my words in ways that honor you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
