Let's Talk Bags

Do you suffer with chronic pain? Do purses cause you a lot of pain? Maybe it is time to think smaller. Sometimes smaller is better.

I have a love/hate relationship with purses. Oh, I love them. Please don't get me wrong on that. They are so pretty. However, they do not love me.

As far back as I can remember, I have never been one to want to carry a purse. I used to toss my driver's license in the car and just go. No purse was needed for that.

As I got older, I  started to care about how I looked and I wanted my bags to reflect that. Plus they carry everything.

I think it all started, honestly, when I had the need to carry diaper bags for the boys. Over time, I ditched the conventional diaper bag and went with a backpack type of purse. I felt like, if I needed to, I could have carried our kitchen sink in there and still had room.

Years have progressed, chronic illnesses have taken over and I am now back to a love/hate relationship with purses. I think they look good, they carry everything that I need for them to carry, but, they cause me way too much pain.

What Is A Girl To Do?

I dug out a wallet, that I had, that was large enough to carry my cell phone. Then I sat down and went through my purse. I asked myself, "Okay, Leigha, what exactly do you have to carry with you when you go out of the house?"

For me, all I absolutely need to carry in a bag is my driver's license, my list of current medications, my solu-cortef injection, the needles, and some alcohol swabs. Oh, and, of course, my cell phone.

That is the bare necessities for me. As long as I make sure that I have those items, I am good.

This leaves me wondering, why do I always struggle with such a big, heavy bag? Are there bags out there that are cute, small and will carry my bare neccessities?

A Purse For Every Occasion

Yes, I am happy to announce that there are cute, small bags out there for every occasion. They are known as cell phone wallet purses and I love them. Some have hand straps (too cute), some have long straps so you can wear the bag over your shoulder or even crossbody style.

If you are like me and live with chronic pain, it might be time to rethink your purse. If you think you can manage without it for the time that you are out of the house, your neck and shoulder just might thank you for switching to smaller bags. See, sometimes, smaller is better.

2 Corinthians 12:8-10 NIV

Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Prayer

Dear Father, thank You for being with me. Father, even as I suffer, I know that You are still there. I know that Your grace is sufficient for me and Your power is made perfect in my weakness. Help me to be strong as I boast in my weaknesses, Lord. For I know that when I am weak, then I am strong. In Jesus' name,  Amen.
