Always Give Thanks

Are you a complainer? Or are you someone that always looks for the positive side of things?

You know, I always like to think that I am someone that looks for the positive side of any situation. Although, I do have to admit that I know that is not true.

I am someone that picks up on the mood of others. In other words, if you are negative, you complain a lot, if I am around you too much, your mood becomes mine. If you are stressed about things, I pick up on that stress, feel the stress and it becomes mine. If you are depressed, I read you like a book. I can zero in on those feelings, want to help you through them, but will have to be careful that I do not just pick them up and carry them.

On the other side of this, if you are happy and I am around you, I will be happy. If you are filled with positive energy and overflow with it, I will pick it up.

How do you stop complaining and be more of a positive person? Especially when you are someone that is so in tune with other feelings around you? You start being thankful.

What does it mean to be thankful?

According to dictionary.com thankful is an adjective which means feeling or expressing gratitude; appreciative

4 Ways To Help You Be Thankful

1. Reflect on the things that you are thankful for.

Spend some time just thinking about all of the things and people in your life to be thankful for.

2. Make a list.

Write down a list of the things you are thankful for.

3. Add to your thankful list every day.

As moments arise each day, be sure to write them down on your list, so you do not forget.

4. Look for small blessings as well.

I also want to encourage you to look for the small blessings that God presents to you throughout the day. You will need to be more purposeful in this part. Pay attention to the little things. Like your husband stopping on his way home from work to pick flowers for you. This is something that he never does <--- it is a blessing, write it down.

My Gratitude List

1.  Tim brought me a couple of tops from the store this morning. This act truly blessed my heart. Lord, thank You for this act of kindness and love.

2.  Jacob calls me every day on his way home from work. I cherish our conversations.

3.  Taylor called yesterday evening. He is settling in to his new place in Texas. I miss him so much. However, he is so excited, you can hear it in his voice.

4.  I am enjoying watching the birds every day.

5.  I am so thankful for coffee. Oh coffee! It is one of my comfort items.

6.  I am so thankful that all of my family are doing well.

7.  I am thankful for this blog. I often struggle with doubts over this blog, however, I read several verses this morning that gave me so much comfort.

Ephesians 5:20 NIV

always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer

Dear Father,  thank You for all that You do. When I find myself struggling to pull myself up out of the pit of depression, please help me to cling to You. Help me to find the blessings that You reveal to me every day. Help me to give thanks to You, Father, for everything. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Give Thanks Anyway
